Disappointing Beauty Products

I've been planning on this post for a while now and I guess it's time to sit down and write it. The following rant will basically be about some of my make-up products that fail at doing what they're supposed to, be it either they're unsuitable for me or they're just basically, how can I say this elegantly?...crap, and not worth the money spent!

The shameful bunch

BENEFIT 'HERVANA' BLUSHER

I've heard such great things about this blusher, and when I received this in my goodie bag at a Benefit launch a while back, I was delighted...that's until I got home and actually swatched the product on the back of my hand (as you do!). 'Till this day I still can't work out what this is supposed to do. It has a very chalky formula, powdery, in a dull and unattractive shade, and believe it or not, the above shows the blusher heavily swatched with fingers, and mind you, when applied with a brush it's even more 'invisible' on the skin.

I don't know if my one is from a bad batch or anything, cause people seem to bloody love this. Plus, it's not even pigmented or shimmery enough to be used as a highlighter...needless to say, I would never purchase this myself. If you think that you are on the really, really pale side of complexions, then this might work for you, but I would still recommend everyone to have *not* a swatch at the counter, but the blusher applied on the cheeks before investing in one!

ELIZABETH ARDEN COLOR INTRIGUE EYELINER GEL

A black eyeliner gel- nothing more, nothing less! What gets the sparks out of me is the fact that this baby transfers as soon as the product touches the skin, and that means no matter how long I look down (admiring my feet no less), waiting for this sucker to dry, as soon as I open my eyes wide, the fecker is in my crease! Oh this has ruined many, many make-up looks I did in my make-up course, one minute it's there, next minute it's everywhere! Not. even. funny!

LANCASTER 'AQUAMATT'

Knowing Lancaster as a brand, I am inclined to believe that this retails somewhere above 30 Euro if not worse, I would not know for a fact since I got mine in TK Maxx also a good while back. It is marketed as a 'multi-zone shone control invisible cream-powder' and comes with a sponge enclosed in the compact. Shine control? Good! Cream-powder? Nice! Multi-zone? Shut-up! Actual results?.... Zero!!!

Again, I don't know how to use this...applied with a brush, nothing! Applied with the sponge-y yoke, nothing! A thing Lancaster really got right in the description, and that is the cream-powder formulation, cause I cannot even describe its texture. All I can assure, is that this does nothing for my skin. And that is enough for me to say I would never in my life, purchase this again!

M.A.C. COSMETICS FLUIDLINE IN 'MACROVIOLET'

I quite used a bit of product from the jar, for the simple fact that I liked the shade, which is obviously the main reason why I bought it in the first place. My only grip with this one is that it's not pigmented enough to line in one go, but instead requires several layers of product to be stocked on the lash line for an evenly pigmented result. And that's that, not worth the effort at the end of it, cause I'm not even that impressed with the shade any more to be honest. Big, fat fail!

MAYBELLINE 2HR COLOR TATTOO 'ETERNAL GOLD'

Still not liking 'Eternal Gold' (I do love, love all the other shades though), still hate the formula and pay-off, and would still not repurchase. See review and swatches here

STILA ILLUMINATING FINISHING POWDER

I love Stila per general, you kind of get what you pay for with this brand. The reason I dislike this is because it has a rather powdery consistency and has flexes of visible glitter running through it. No one wants visible glitter, we want subtle shimmer, barely there highlighters, cause the Disco days are over Baby :)! So for this matter, I never reach for it and would never repurchase.

Phew, kind of went wild up there, I can criticise them to the point when I'm getting a wee bit bitchy, so apologies if you personally love the products mentioned above, I must insist that these might actually work for you, so do not rely on my opinions entirely, and take this as it is: my personal experience with them.

However, if you hate any of the above then why not leave a comment below and share your experience with me? Or with any other beauty products for that matter!

Yours, ArtDonatella

I'm so there with Hervana, it's just not showing off on the skin. It's not great as highlighter either, suppose its a case of beauty in the pan and crap on skin. Baffled of the posts how praise this, I must be really dark skinned haha

@YourBeauty - Hehe, you do have beautiful dark skin and I *hate* you for that :P....I'm only messing, much love! xoxoxoxo

Hervana does nothing for me either it doesn't show up on my skin- if it doesn't show up on Irish skin who's skin is it supposed to show up on ??? OMG I can't believe you have Stila there ... Ah well they cant make all good products

Agree with the benefit blush, it has no pigmentation. It's very bad. As for the maybelline colour tattoo you should try a different shade, I have the gold and I hate it, it just turns to glitter on me, but the other colours are way better :)

@Actionmags - I know, heartbreaking :(...but all the other Stila bits I have are boootifoool xo

@Lauren Marie- Oh I do have others in my collection (I buy in bulk :P), I love the bronze and taupe ones, they're fantastic :)! xx

I'm quite surprised by Hervana, as I see it all the time on beauty blogs! I haven't personally try it though, so cannot say anything about it!

One product I have tried and that everybody is always raving about is the Aussie 3 minute. It doesn't do anything!!!

@Ms Bubu - I love Aussie (the Miracle Moist range especially), but never tried the 3 Minute yoke... thanks for the heads up :)! x

Agree with the fluidline completely, it's a nightmare to apply... Bit of a let down :( Great post :) x

Thank you love, haven't tried other shades from MAC, but this one-totally is a let down :) x

I have the Stila finishing powder highlight glitter yoki-ma-bob thing too and hate it

@ Laura - Haha, great description, I know exactly what you mean :P xo

I bought MAC Waveline and found it to be the most boring and dull navy blue ever! the formula itself wasn't great. I found the Paint pots to work better and more smoothly as eyeliners.

@Olivia - I don't own any Paint Pots from MAC, weird I know! Not all of their products are good, and somehow people expect 'great' from them! x
