Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector in 'Opal'

Ever since I first saw the Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector featured in Lisa Eldridge's videos, I knew I would at some stage need to investigate further. Lisa is a big fan of this particular highlighter and whatever Lisa recommends, it's usually a knocker!

Two months ago, I was contacted by a lovely PR Rep. for an Irish beauty website called 'beautymatters.ie' and she kindly offered to send me some products (for consideration purposes) to review on my blog. By blind luck, one of the products she sent me was the Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector in shade 'Opal'. Now this little baby deserves a mention on the blog I tell you, for as soon as I opened its box I knew I would cherish and love it forever.

In the pics to follow you'll be able to notice some differences in lighting, the swatches are photographed in artificial lighting, yet my *papped* face is taken in daylight, as an eejit that I am, I forgot to take some proper pics of the product in natural daylight, and I've had and used this for months now. How's that for a responsible beauty blogger?

Isn't it preeeety?

Smashbox 'Studio Pop' Holiday Collection

Before a very interesting and fantastic press event held last week at the trendy Beauty Bootcamp in Dublin, I must admit that the only products I knew and tried from Smashbox were their much coveted primers, one of which I reviewed back in 2010 here. After this particular event, I must now confess that I am tres intrigued by this brand and am currently trialling some utterly fantastic products from them.

This post however will be one of an informative nature, showcasing the Smashbox Holiday 2012 Collection, quite deservingly named 'Studio Pop', due to the fabulous colours and textures featured, perfect for a photo-ready festive make-up look.

First up, the Studio Pop Eye Palette which retails at 49 Euro a 'pop', and comprises of sixteen Photo Op Eyeshadows, four cream eye liners (bottom row) and the exclusive 'Get the Look' cards which provide step-by-step guides to achieving the perfect festive eye makeup look.  Now again, that's SIXTEEN eyeshadows and FOUR cream eye liners in this palette, and if you ask me, for 49 Euro that's a pure and sheer, obvious bargain. I don't know exactly how much the pans weigh individually, but the palette looks pretty big I tell you!

The second item is the Studio Pop for Lips which contains three Lip Enhancing Glosses and two Reflection High Shine Lip Glosses, and the latter is according to the press release, formulated with hyaluronic acid and antioxidant Vitamin E, as well as light reflective pearl for a high-shine wet look result. The set retails at 25 Euro

And then there was this bad boy, the Studio Pop for Eyes set which comprises of four creamy eye liners as well as a travel size Full Exposure Mascara, retailing at 27 Euro....beautiful stuff!

The Studio Pop collection is fantastic if you ask me, with products that come in beautiful tin cases, perfect for gifting them to your loved ones, and if you're anything like me, to yourselves, why not?  I personally have my eye on that eyeshadow palette, as if I don't have enough eyeshadows to last me five lifetimes, but hey-ho! A girl's gotta buy what a girl's gotta have :).

Smashbox Cosmetics and the Studio Pop Collection is available to purchase now, online and on counters in Boots Stores nationwide and Arnotts.

See anything you like???

Scentlab, Exclusively at Debenhams

Having a difficult time choosing fragrances for your loved ones this Christmas? Of course you are, because perfumes are so personal, it can often be a 'hit or miss' result and smelling all the beautiful bottled perfumes is just not an option for your poor nose sometimes. And even if by some divine power you do get to smell *everything*, you can still get it wrong and with the price of perfumes one cannot afford to -splash and crash- these days!

Exclusively at Debenhams Henry Street in Dublin 1, Scentlab is a breakthrough innovation in the world of fragrances, designed especially for these types of situations when you find yourself in the middle of shelves full of tens of perfumes, but with no idea on what exactly would suit the person you are gifting (even when that person is *yourself*).

On a user friendly touchscreen through a general short questionnaire, Scentlab will select three perfumes at the end of the 'test' which best suit the taste, lifestyle and personality of the person you are buying for

November Favourites

It's been a while since I did a 'favourites' post and it's about time I give some credit and much love to my beauty heroes for the past month.

AVON NAILWEAR PRO+
Swatches here and here

So for this month especially, I've been really big into darker shades and in particular Avon nail polishes, they're simply fantastic, quite fast drying, really, really long lasting (think seven consecutive days of wear) and deadly shade selection wise. I've been wearing 'Tweed' non stop and as I type, 'Red Reveal' is shining on my nails right now.

Catrice 'Nude Religion' Lip Liner

Ahoy ladies and gents, I have just found my perfect nude lip product, 'Nude Religion' Lip Liner by Catrice or as I love to refer to: 'the nude of my life'!

We all know how pretentious nude lip colours can be, in my opinion it's not the perfect red shades that are tricky to find for each skin tone in part, but instead good nudes are the ones that are pretty darn hard to find. Be it with a pink undertone, brown or peach, the perfect nude lip colour has to be almost tailor-made to make you look alive and not corps-y looking. I've long wanted a great natural shade to go with a cool smoky eye make-up and I must say 'I finally found THE one'.

Inglot Christmas 2012

We're nearly there people, December is almost upon us therefore it's justified I think, to start talking about Christmas collections, Christmas sets and everything else in between.

I have quite an open love affair with Inglot, being a proud owner of three of their Freedom System palettes, and I must admit that I generally cannot fault them: their eyeshadows and lipsticks are amazing quality for their price, and their Eyeliner Gels are simply the best out there with no doubts whatsoever. I am therefore thrilled to be able to post about their new Christmas collection comprising of brand new shades of already established products, but also new additions to the Inglot family product wise.

*NEW*

The new Inglot 14 Piece Brush Set retails at 150 Euro and comprises of six eye brushes, two lip brushes and six face brushes.

Ten new Rainbow Eyeshadow shades which can be bought as single pans for 8 Euro each, in a palette of two for 22 Euro, or the full 10 shades palette which costs 88 Euro

Sally Hansen Gem Crush

First of all, I love the name, well suited, to the point and quite self-explanatory! The latest 'gem' brought to the market by Sally Hansen is a new collection of eight shades called Gem Crush which are basically high impact and full coverage glitter nail polishes. Unlike anything I've ever seen or had in my collection before, these nail polishes are the bomb! this festive season. I mean, just look at them:

On Stands Now & Incoming New Season Scents

I am not saying the 'C********s' word just yet just so you know, but instead I'll mention the 'new season' that's upon us, which came faster than one can say 'spritz' and the only fabulous thing it brings with it, is new collections in beauty and new perfumes on the market.

Not a bunch to ignore, here is a rundown of what's in stores NOW scent-wise.

Jean Paul Gaultier 'Le Male Gladiator'

I am only stating the obvious here when I say that I very naturally started with this because of the bottle. Yes it is the Jean Paul Gaultier's signature 'Le Male' shape, but this one would have to be my favourite design out of them all and it's all because of the metal breastplate, we like! With notes of mint, coriander, lavender, orange blossom and amber, the perfume itself is not one to ignore either.  This is a limited edition 125ml eau de toilette which is priced at 76 Euro

Balmain Paris 'Ambre Gris'
Released on the market in 2008, 'Ambre Gris' is a warm, soft yet spicy fragrance with notes like pink pepper, tuberose, mirrh, tonka bean, incense and sensual amber, in a clean elegant and sophisticated bottle. 40ml EDP - 48Euro  & 75ml EDP - 70Euro

Avon 'City Rush' Perfume

There comes a time in one's life when one odd fact needs to be admitted. That odd fact in this particular case is 'Dammit, that Avon perfume sure smells nice!', or something to those lines...

I must admit and please don't judge, that I'm a self-confessed snob when it comes to fragrances, I've yet to find a 'slebfume' (see what I did here?) or a non-designer that smells nice, they're all either too sweet, too cheap smelling or too alcohol-y for me, and the latter I find is usually the case with Avon perfumes in my opinion. I am either a fresh bergamot/grapefruit/orange blossom kind of girl, or raspberry/violet/lilly-of-the-valley type, but overall my scent HAS to be fresh and far from sickly, fruity, candy sweet types.

Avon's newest perfume (starring internationally renowned supermodel Milla Jovovich) however, kind of knocks all my snobbery to the ground with its new release called 'City Rush', a perfume which a lot of people claim it resembles to Gucci 'Guilty'. While I'm not sure about the comparison with 'Guilty', one thing is certain in my mind: City Rush smells darn delicious!

Going Gaga for 'Fame'?

As many other people out there I'm sure of it, the only thing I heard about 'Fame' by Lady Gaga at the very beginning before its launch, was the outrageous statement that the latter will smell of blood and semen, but I now rest assured that it contains no such things (or if it does, they're not mentioned in the press release).

Today's post is all about Lady Gaga's newly launched perfume in collaboration with Haus Laboratories and in association with Coty Inc.

Compounded by Lady Gaga herself and created by Master Perfumer Richard Herpin in association with Honorine Blanc and Nathalie Lorson from Firmenich, 'Fame' is built around three main accords, unlike the usual pyramidal structure of notes:

Dark Notes:  Tears of Belladonna, Incense
Sensual Notes: Pulverized Apricot, Saffron and Honey
Light Notes: Tiger Orchidea and Jasmine Sambac

New Lipstick Purchases :)

....*inserts cheeky grin emoticon*

Funny thing this shopping business, I decided today that it was time to treat myself to some new lipsticks (like I need any more of these), because I've been off cigarettes now for an entire period of SIX months, which is a lifetime for a regular puffer like I used to be. As soon as I quit the real thing, I switched to the electronic version of cigarettes and as of Monday past, I am a proud 'quitter' of those feckers too. Yes ladies and gents, *that's* how cool I am.

Anywho, as a respectable girl that I am, I thought I'll reward my so far five days effort of non electronic-smoking with these bad boys. Now now, not that I need a reason to shop (I actually do, shhhh!) but reward shopping is something very fulfilling, no guilty feeling afterwards and you buy what you want with a clean and happy conscience, win-win!

Against all my 'efforts', I just couldn't bring myself to remove film, as one can see above....

70's Inspired with NYC Cosmetics

I received a few eyeshadow quads from the NYC Autumn/Winter collection last week and as soon as I laid my eyes on 'Fashion Bootcamp' (which is my favourite), all I could think of was '70's shades', those  warm earthy autumn colours that were so popular back in those times, so I thought I'll play around and wear this accordingly.

Here is the quad in question:

Marc Jacobs 'DOT'

Hold on to your seats because you're about to witness a visual feast!

'DOT' is Marc Jacobs' newest perfume release which was inspired by the designer's all time love for the polka dot pattern, and thank the Lord for polka dots otherwise we would have never witnessed the making of such bottle and the delight of such scent!

“I don’t think there is ever a wrong time for a polka dot…”

                                                                                                                        -Marc Jacobs

I attended a very interesting and highly entertaining Coty press event back in August, where we had the pleasure of meeting Lizzie Ostrom (a.k.a.Odette) from Scratch & Sniff Events , which hands down was the most fun fragrance event I ever took part in. The guests were encouraged to not just describe the scent by recognizing perfume notes, but instead to take it further a notch. And so we found out that a perfume can relate to a particular music genre, or that it can inspire certain colours and textures into mind, and so is how the bottles and the perfume ads visuals come together, by letting the nose trigger all your senses. And that my friends, was a fun and eye-opening exercise for me!

DOT by Marc Jacobs was as by fate and blind luck in my goody bag from the press event and at first glance I squealed inside, just so: squeeeeeeeeee! And I know what you're thinking now, of course a perfume is good once it's in a goody bag, but no! Stop that and take a look at this:

Vichy Idealia - In Stores This Week

Vichy Idealia is a new range from Vichy Laboratoires that is aimed towards skin repair for an even, smooth and luminous skin and to help restore the behaviour of a healthy looking skin.

Suitable for all skin types even sensitive, hypoallergenic (enriched with Vichy Thermal Spa Water), paraben free and dermatologically tested, the range comprises of two wonder products: the Vichy Idealia Pro (30 ml) RRP: 34.50Euro and Vichy Idealia Smoothing and Illuminating Cream (50 ml) RRP: 26Euro.

The Idealia Smoothing and Illuminating Cream is the result of five years of research and two patents, and is marketed as an everyday skincare cream suitable for all skin types and all ages. With active ingredients like 3% Kombucha with toning qualities, AHA's to smooth skin's  texture, Vit. B for increased radiance and Polyphenols to aid micro-circulation, this cream will help even out the complexion (non-comedogenic), and decrease pore and wrinkle visibility.

Vichy Idealia Pro   on the other hand is a corrector (light serum-like texture) that tackles skin pigmentation issues like dark spots and uneven skin tone relating issues like brown spots, sunspots, ageing spots, blemish marks and blotchiness. This contains a new generation of active ingredients to target the deep source of dark spots in the dermis, meaning that it doesn't just work at the surface of the skin or the first layer (Epidermis) but instead it also acts upon the Dermis and protects the fibroblasts within from oxidation and inflammation (known to indirectly influence the production of melanin).
This product is mostly recommended to women over 30 years of age.

Make-Up Routine

It takes a lot of balls to do what I'm about to do! I've been long thinking about doing a make-up routine post, but as other trillion women out there, I'm so self-conscious when it comes to my naked face, and still, because my skin is not at its best form at the moment (that's my story and I'm sticking to it!), I will post only my naked but covered in foundation face for the time being, and who knows, maybe in the future I'll show you my au naturel face :) (would not get my hopes to high on this one though, trust me- you do not want to see it!).

So here we go!

L: naked - foundation only                       R: - contour & eyebrow filling

Products used:

Collection 2000 Lasting Concealer in Shade Fair -1
